BLD, TLD, MS2009: A Guide to Comparing the ECB Leak Detector Series
Choosing the right leak tester means balancing accuracy, cost, and application complexity. ECB offers three series for leak and tightness testing of welded, bonded, or assembled components, designed for the automotive, pneumatic, hydraulic, and household sectors.
All series use the same measurement method, Δp/Δt, but differ in the number of available channels, user interface, and ideal scope of application.
The Δp/Δt Measurement Method
The Δp/Δt method detects the presence of a leak by measuring the change in pressure over time inside the component under test. This technology is common to all ECB series, with a nonlinearity error of less than 0.3% on the BLD and TLD series.
When to Choose the BLD Series?
The BLD is a single-channel instrument designed for users who are particularly cost-conscious. Despite its entry-level positioning, it comes standard with all interfaces—digital for PLC, serial, USB, and Ethernet—without the need for additional options.
It features manual (non-electronic) pressure adjustment and is suitable for simple, single-channel applications.
- Channels: 1
- Operating pressure: from vacuum (minus 1 to 0 bar) up to 10 bar standard
- Resolution: 0.01 mBar up to 4 bar
- Programs: 8
- Display: 4x20 backlit alphanumeric
- Dimensions, 200 x 135 x 290 mm
- Warranty: 24 months
When should you choose the TLD series?
The TLD features a 4.3-inch color LCD-TFT touchscreen display, which simplifies navigation through test programs, parameter configuration, test results, time-trend graphs, and counters for conforming and non-conforming parts.
It can be equipped with electronic pressure control, which automatically adjusts the pressure based on the selected program, eliminating the need for manual knobs. It is available in single-channel (TLD-1) and dual-channel (TLD-2) versions, with the dual-channel version functioning as two single-channel instruments in a single housing.
The standard range extends up to 10 channels in TLD configurations.
- Channels: 1 (TLD-1) or 2 (TLD-2)
- Operating pressure: from vacuum up to 10 bar standard, with optional proportional electronic regulators
- Resolution: 0.01 mBar up to 4 bar
- Programs: 64
- Display: 4.3-inch LCD-TFT touchscreen
- Dimensions, 200 x 135 x 290 mm (TLD-1), 275 x 135 x 290 mm (TLD-2)
- Warranty: 24 months
One advantage of the multichannel versions is cost savings; adding a channel has a lower fixed cost than purchasing multiple single-channel instruments side by side.
The MS2009 Series for Independent Multichannel Measurement
The MS2009 series features an integrated pneumatic circuit and up to 4 fully independent measurement channels, with a touchscreen display and remote control via an RS-232 interface, making it ideal for users who need to manage multiple measurement points independently on a single instrument.
Real-world applications in the automotive, plumbing, and home appliance industries
ECB leak testers are used on a wide range of components, including:
- Automotive: headlights, taillights, license plate lights, third brake lights, Daytime Running Lights (DRL) control units, and capless fuel tank fillers—all for leak testing
- Plumbing: ceramic valves for faucets, ceramic cartridges for single-handle mixers, and centrifugal pumps, with leak testing on the vibration-welded turbine housing
- Home Appliances: dishwasher rinse aid dispensers, with leak testing on the vibration-welded tank
Customization Even on Standard Models
Across all series, ECB applies its philosophy of customizing standard products: starting from the standard operating range of up to 10 bar, non-standard applications have been developed up to 450 bar, in addition to mixed-channel configurations.
Free trial before purchase and ongoing support
ECB offers a free instrument trial service, allowing you to test the selected series directly in your own production environment before purchase.
At ECB, we believe in the value of long-term relationships: our technical support continues after installation, with after-sales service guaranteed even for products no longer in production.
